It’s only 2 weeks until Halloween!
I looove Halloween! It’s the beginning of everything awesome. Halloween means costumes and parties, scary stories and pranks on your loved ones. Soup, pumpkin carving, late nights and getting curled up under the blankets. Oh and don’t forget trick-or-treating! The one night a year your parents let you stay out super late to
vandalize your neighbors’ property hang out with your friends. Or when you were really little, the one night a year you got to go door to door and earn treats from strangers simply for playing dress up.
So in the spirit of Halloween, I promise I’m not “that” person. You know…the humbugger of holidays. I love Halloween, but I also know too much about our kids’ overconsumption of sugar. So every year I’ve handed out something other than candy to hopefully make my own small contribution to combating an unacceptable social norm.
PS. this isn’t just for overweight kids. I get really pissed when I see the viral Facebook posts of overweight children shamed out of Halloween candy. Exhibit A:
THIS IS NOT OKAY! It’s pretty much guaranteed that every kid you see these days is eating too much sugar. Yes, my kids included. So don’t hand out notes like this, because I will throat-punch you if you do. Instead of banning innocent children from what should be an evening of excitement, why don’t we take a little personal responsibility and just hand out something that’s better for everyone, mmmkay?
